This past weekend my friend Tiffany and I went to the International Beauty Conference in Las Vegas. One of the reasons I wanted to go was to see my haircutting idol, Nick Arrojo (you may remember him from a little show called What Not to Wear?) On Saturday, Tiffany and I went to his booth at the show to see what sort of products he was selling and what not. I wasn't really expecting him to actually BE at his booth, so when I saw him on top of a round platform cutting someone's hair, I was starstruck! I decided to go up and ask him for a picture (which I wouldn't normally do because I am so darn shy. Hehe) but I did and he was more than happy to take a picture with me.
Once the camera snapped, he ran his fingers through my hair and said "I want to use you for a model tomorrow. Go give you name and number over at the counter." I, of course, was ecstatic! I went to the product counter and jotted down my name and cell number. I was told that I would be receiving a call sometime that night to get all the information. Around 10:30 that night Nick himself calls me! He informs me that I need to meet him at his booth at 9AM sharp to get my hair colored.
So the next day I arrived at his booth at 9AM and they colored me up. My hair color didn't change much, they just fixed up my regrowth (roots) and took me one level blonder. (A level 12 if you wanna get technical. LOL) Once that was all over with, Tiffany and I walked out onto the conference floor to watch his performance on stage. He did a total of three haircuts. It was so fascinating to watch!
Once the show was over, Tiffany and I went back to his area where I got my makeup done and put on the shoes they had me wear. I was wearing flip-flops and that just wouldn't do so they decided to give me these 4 inch Stiletto heals that had to have cost $500! And they hurt like a you-know-what!
So finally at 12:30PM he used me as a model in his haircutting class. He sat me right up there on stage with him. Right in the middle. There were two other girls with me as well, but they were being cut my two of his colleagues (one being his wife Lina.) I felt so honored that he wanted to cut my hair himself! It was so amazing! One of the best hairdressers in the world cut my hair, MINE! Out of all the people there! Wow, God is awesome! So I ended up getting a $700+ hairstyle for free. Not to mention a little taste of fame. LOL! As soon as I stepped off that stage, I was bombarded by people wanting to take my picture! Haha! People were actually coming up to me and asking me which agency I worked for. I was like "Hey I'm just a Cosmetology student! Haha!"
This experience is one that I will never ever forget. It honestly has to be one of the highlights of my life. I'm sorry this was so long, but this was really really exciting for me. It truly was a life-changing experience. So now, for the pictures! Haha!
Okay, I know that's picture overload, but can you blame me? haha! Here are a few better shots of my Nick Arrojo haircut! :D
