So I am a teen mom right? I got pregnant at 15. Had my daughter at 16. Boyfriend left me. Parents were angry and disappointed. Didn't know what life would hold for me. School was horrific. Life.Was.Hell.
What I don't understand is
why a teenager, like myself, would
try to get pregnant. That just seriously blows my mind. It makes me sad and angry at the same time. First of all, being a teen mommy is no walk in the park. Its
NOT easy, and most of the time it is
NOT fun. Am I saying that I don't love my daughter? Of course not! But what I am saying this that, given the choice, I would
NOT have chosen to get pregnant on purpose! Lyla is my whole life, and I wouldn't change my choice to keep her
EVER! She saved my life, and God has used her tremendously, but I would have
NEVER gone out and had sex just for the purpose of making a baby.
I have met two girls at my school {not the two who I have mentioned in previous blog posts} who have done just this: gotten pregnant because "they just wanted a baby." Now don't get me wrong, I am not judging them in any way, shape, or form. It must be tough for them as well to be pregnant, but you have to stop and think, they did this on
purpose. It really kinda offends me when I hear other teen moms say that they got pregnant just because they wanted a baby. What about the baby? Have they thought about what they are throwing away? They have their whole life ahead of them, and yet they want to become pregnant as a teenager? It is
NOT a fad! Being a teenage mother is
NOT the cool thing to do on campus!
PLEASE PEOPLE, UNDERSTAND THAT!!!Life was living Hell for me as a pregnant teenager on campus. I was made fun of, talked about, and annoyed everyday about "who's the father?" and "where your parents
SUPER mad at you?" and "are you gonna keep it?" Those three things right there nearly drove me
INSANE!Perhaps these girls are doing this for attention. Perhaps it is because they just want someone to love them. Maybe it is to trap their boyfriend. Or maybe it is just because they want out of their life. Whatever the reason, I am going to try and help them. I am going to tell them strait up that, while being pregnant might
feel glamorous, once the baby comes, it is
ALL about him/her. Nothing can be about you anymore. Every single dollar you make, every single hour in your day, every smile you have, every ounce of patience,
EVERYTHING goes into that baby.
Teen pregnancy is becoming somewhat of an epidemic in our nation. {I kinda feel like a hypocrite saying that. Haha!} But seriously, more and more teens are becoming pregnant each year, and even more are becoming pregnant on
purpose! How can we stop this growing "fad" from spreading? Well, here are some ways
you can help:
- Keep your teens away from sensual movies that say "sex outside of marriage is a-okay!"
- Spend quality time with your teens so they don't have to look for attention elsewhere.
- Talk to your teens about sex, and the dangers it can create if you don't wait until marriage to partake in it.
- Sit down and read a book with your teen about unprotected sex and its dangers.
- Encourage your teen to get involved in a school sport or activity.
- Donate to the National Campaign to Prevent Teen & Unplanned Pregnancy.
For me personally, I am going to share my story with as many people as possible. I want to show the teens in this world that making a baby should be something special between a husband and a wife, and if you do this outside of marriage, you are in so many words; screwed. {No pun intended.}
Life is filled with so many opportunities for our youth. New jobs are being invented each day. New discoveries are being made. So many things are available to the up-and-coming generation. It saddens me to see so many giving up their lives. I know from experience. I have had to do a lot of growing up, and I have lost so many things. I love Lyla more than anything, but it is still hard. It is VERY hard. Some days I just wish I could be a kid once again. I cannot, but YOU can be! Don't give up your life just yet. You will be a mother soon enough. Enjoy your youth now, while you still can.
God Bless You All
