Formspring Friday

As I mentioned last week, I will be displaying some of the questions I have recieved from my Formspring.me account. If anyone wants to ask a question, just head on over HERE and ask me anything! I could be displaying your question on Friday! Yay!

What are the different categories you get to learn and practice in beauty school?
We do everything involving hair, skin, and nails. We have 6 week modules which include: haircutting, haircoloring, chemical perms & relaxers, roller sets, shampoo sets, scalp treatments, nails, skin care, and waxing. I believe that is everything that we cover. :)

What was lyla's first word? I'm sorry if this was already answered on your blog!
Lyla's first word was of course Mama, but after that she said Papa, Jeff [our dog], "all done", "bye bye" those were basically the first things she started to say. :)

If you could make everyone in the world sing a song together simultaneously, what song would it be? and why?
Probably "Shake it Up Baby" by the Beatles. I just keep remembering that scene from Ferris Beuller's Day Off where everyone starts dancing and single to that song, and I always thought it would be sooo cool!

That Snow Almost KILLED Me!!!!!

Yesterday was just a normal Wednesday. I ended up leaving for school the same time I always do, I got there the same time I always did, and I sat in the same place I always sit. Once the clock hit 5:45PM the lecture on hair and shampoos started. Tiffany and I were bored out of our minds so we deiced to count how many times out instructor said the word "like." [which was about 30 times within a 60 minute time frame.]

Once our lecture was concluded and out brake time up, we all had to perform shampoos on one another. That didn't happen. It turns out, the heavy winter clouds decided they wanted to drop massive amounts of snow. It would have been beautiful any other time, but I just kept thinking to myself that I had to find some way to drive down the mountain in that. The thought pretty much made we want to hyperventalate!

I called my mom and she told me that I should be fine, but she wanted me to leave school early. I was fine with that. So I mosey on outside only to find about 5 inches of snow covering the ground--AND MY CAR! So once I assess the situation, I decide the first thing I need to do is get the snow off the windows so I can see. Once that step in done, I get on in the freezing car and start the engine. After I am satisfied that I car is warm enough, I head on out.

Immedietly my little 2002 Honda starts sliding across the road. I think to myself "How in the heck am I ever going to make it down the mountain!?!" I ponder this for a second and decide that I just need to get home.

I didn't end up getting home. I turned around about 2 miles down the road. I just couldn't do it. The ice, mixed with the snow on the ground was causing a massive sized ice rink in which my tires were the ice skates! I was ALL over the road! So I drove very carefully back to the school and waited.

My sister and brother-in-law ended up taking me to there house for the night [they live about 45 mins north of the school] so that was really awesome. I had to stay the night at their house, and leave my precious car in the school parking lot overnight, but it was either that or die on the way home. I choose life.

So I finally made it home around 9o'clock this morning, and I practically kissed the ground! I cannot tell you how freaked out I was last night! I am from the city, I have hardly ever seen snow, much less driven in it! I mean this was like a blizzard for Arizona!

Anyways, I am just thankful the God delieved me home to my baby girl safe and sound. She ran up and gave me a HUGE hug as if to say "Mommy! I am so glad you are home safe!" It was the perfect end to a not-so-pefect ordeal.

Here's what I was faced with last night:

Snow Day Equals Insomnia?

We had a snow day from school tonight. {yes we have snow days in Arizona} It was such an amazing blessing since I wasn't feeling like going to school. Since I live out in the middle of nowhere, I have to drive an hour north {usually in the snow and ice} to get to school. So you can imagine how relieved I was to not have to drive my little Honda Civic up the freezing mountains.

It was sooooooo nice to have the chance to hang out with my family this evening, which I don't normally get to do since I go to school 5 days a week. And I just LOVED hanging with my baby girl all evening too. I miss being able to tuck her in, and feed her dinner, and give her good-night smooches, and pray with her, and sing "Jesus Loves Me" to her when she goes to bed. Every night it just makes me so sad that I can't be there to do those things for her. But tonight, it was a rare treat to be able to do so.

Once I did all these things, and the Squirt was finally in bed, Mom, Lexy, and I watched a new episode of House and The Biggest Loser. It's funny how you can bond with others over something as simple as watching a TV show together. We laughed, we cried, we yelled at the TV and it was all good. It was a super-duper awesome evening.

But now its almost midnight and I CANT SLEEP! I mean, this is supposed to be my special day off. I am supposed to be able to catch up on my sleep since I don't usually get to bed until 11:30 on normal school nights. ARGGGG! I just want to sleep, but my stupid insomnia decided to pay a visit to me. *pouts* So I figured I would blog a bit in hopes of tiring my eyes enough to ease into a peaceful slumber. And I think it's working. Yay! Sweet dreams everyone!

Staying Positive

Yesterday during school out instructor has us do this really amazing exercise. It was kinda cheesy and cliche, but it was really empowering. What she did was tape a piece of paper onto all of our backs and then had us go around and write something positive about each person. Now, if anyone has ever heard the rumor that Beauty School has more drama than a day-time soap opera, then you have pretty much heard a very accurate description. Beauty School is FULL of drama. Horrible, horrible drama. So as you can imagine, there are some people in the class who don't like other people.

That being said, it was very hard for some of us to find positive things to say about some of the other students. We all really tried though, and the end result was really awesome. Everyone un-taped their papers, and read what the other students had to say about them, and smiles broke out across the room. It was really powerful.

This exercise made me realize something. Wouldn't life be much more enjoyable if everyone focused on the positive instead of the negative? I mean, I know its human nature to judge those we see, but we really don't know what another person has gone through. I am a young mother and I sure as heck don't want someone to judge me  before they get to know me. If they got to know me they would see that I am an awesome mother, and a cool person to hang around [I hope! LOL!]

So my new goal is this: I am going to try to say one positive thing to every person I talk to, every single day. Through this exercise, maybe I will learn to actually talk to someone before I judge them on how they look, or how they talk, or how they carry themselves. I really want to help make the world a better place, and share the love of God with others. How am I ever going to do that if I am negative all the time? I'M NOT!!

At the end of the week, I will be posting what I learned from this little experiment, and if any of you choose to take my latest challenge, then come on back here on Saturday and share what you learned through your "Stay Positive" exercise. Good luck everyone! May the Force be with you! :D
